About Us

History

Don Cristobal is a family owned winery that started its activities in 1998 with the solid commitment to produce quality wines with personality. The shareholders of the company are the Belgian-Argentinian family Lapania-Vandenbalck. The winery is run by Eduardo Lapania, its founder, and by his son and daughter Cristóbal and Carine Lapania.

Don Cristobal began its production of wines with the 2001 harvest and entered that same year in the world wine market with its brand Cristóbal 1492 “Wines of the New World for the Entire World”. The new world wine began its history when Christopher Columbus discovered the American continent in 1492 and today Don Cristobal wines are positioned in the most demanding and competitive markets in the world.

Don Cristóbal owns a total of 200 hectares of land with 145 hectares of planted vineyards, a very good production base and a great diversity of areas and grapes. In constant evolution, the company improves day by day in its winemaking process and in implementing sustainable practices in the vineyards and in the winery.

Philosophy

Our goal is to produce premium wines of excellent quality for the most exquisite palates.

To achieve these goals, we follow these principles:

Quality

Quality is the responsibility of the entire Don Cristóbal team. We work with changing and improving systems to comply with the needs of the market and our clients.

Innovation

We have state-of-the-art facilities and a cutting-edge technology. We follow the best winemaking traditions to produce high quality and unique wines.

Creativity

The originality and identity of our wines are a priority as well as positioning our brands: we pursue distinction and we seek to be innovative.

Sustainability

We are committed to respecting the environment by decreasing our usage of water, energy, and agrochemicals. We also achieve this by using sustainable products such as lightweight bottles.

Vineyards

Don Cristóbal owns 200 hectares of land, with 145 hectares of planted vineyards in the main terroirs located in the surroundings of the city of Mendoza.

The production methods in the vineyards and in the winery are based on the combination of tradition and technological innovation, respecting the organic and sustainable production process.

The variety of soils and altitude of each of our vineyards – together with an adequate balance between its production and its vegetative part – allow us to harvest high-quality grapes.
